The Barrio de los Hoteles is a residential area of the city that was created during the so-called Urban Renewal period (1888-1922). It has been declared a Heritage of Cultural Interest. This neighbourhood was home to the rich banana plantation owners living in the capital, to the political class and liberal professionals and, above all, to the new business bourgeoisie linked to the port’s mercantile traffic, especially foreigners.
